Experienced anglers and novices, go Fishing for a Cause this summer. Come aboard the Middlebank II on Saturday, July 24 and/or Sunday, July 25 for a Fishing for a Cause excursion to benefit the cancer programs of St. Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound.
Leaving from Captain’s Cove Seaport in the historic Black Rock Harbor of Bridgeport, CT, the Middlebank II will offer four fishing cruises, two per day, with 50% of the proceeds benefiting the SWIM’s cancer screening, support and financial assistance programs.
The day cruise departs at 8:00 a.m. and returns at 3:00 p.m. and costs $60 for adults and $40 for children age 12 and under. The evening cruise departs at 4:30 p.m. and returns at 8:30 p.m. and cost $45 for adults and $30 for children age 12 and under. The fee includes bait, tackle, rod and reel. Visa, Mastercard and cash are accepted.
A fully-accommodated 72-foot-long vessel, the Middlebank II can hold up to 60 anglers, plus crew. Boasting a wide and stable beam, the Middle bank II provides plenty of seating both inside and out, a heated cabin, galley, separate ladies accommodations and 700 horsepower for a quick ride to the fishing grounds. Patrons are welcome to imbibe from the small galley where soda, water and chips may be purchased and/or bring a small cooler (under 72 quarts) on board packed with food and beverages from home. Beer and wine may be brought on board, however hard alcohol and glass bottles are not permitted.
The Griffin family of Rowayton, CT, owners of the Middlebank II, have been a part of Captain’s Cove for years. “I feel that the Cove is part of my family and we really wanted to do something to honor Jan Williams. The SWIM Across the Sound meant a lot to her and Fishing for a Cause was a way for us to help,” said Stephanie. Williams, who worked as co-director of Captain’s Cove passed away on February 14, 2009 due to cancer. She volunteered for the SWIM for more than 15 years and served as co-chair of the charity for four years.
