12th Annual SWIM Sunset Sail
Saturday, September 6, 2014

Port Jefferson/Bridgeport Ferry leaves from the Bridgeport Ferry Dock, Bridgeport, CT
Departure: 3:30 p.m. Return: 7 p.m.

On September 6, more than 200 people boarded the Port Jefferson Ferry for a sunset sail around Long Island Sound.  The cruisers enjoyed live music played by the C-Sides, food from Vazzy's restaurant, drinks, and even a little dancing.  Although rain began to fall as the sail began, the skies soon cleared and sailors were treated to a double rainbow over the water.

This is the 12th year Kathy Young organized the cruise to raise money specifically for breast cancer patients who seek support from the SWIM Cancer Programs.  This year, the event raised $30,000.  Kathy Young was delighted by the result and said she was grateful to Paul Garavel of Garavel Chrysler Jeep Dodge Ram of Norwalk and The Bridgeport Port Jefferson Ferry for their sponsorship and support.

All net proceeds from the Sunset Sail  support the SWIM's Breast Cancer programs, such as mobile mammography screenings, wigs, breast cancer support groups and financial assistance to breast cancer patients and their families.

Kathy Young, chair of the Sunset Sail, was looking forward to another successful Sail. "The Sunset Sail is a fun SWIM event," says Young. "All you need to do is sit back, relax and enjoy great company and beautiful scenery."

The SWIM raises more than $2 million and helps more than 30,000 individuals annually through 45 cancer  education, screening and prevention programs, and financial assistance for qualifying cancer patients and their families.
