Thank you for your interest in volunteering as part of the medical support team during the 25th Annual St. Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound Marathon scheduled for Saturday, July 28, 2012!

A fundraising event that started in 1987, the St. Vincent’s SWIM Across the Sound Marathon has raised millions of dollars over the years –$400,000 in 2011 alone. All the funds raised benefit the SWIM’s 40 cancer services, which provide cancer screening, education, prevention and support programs right here in our community as well as provide financial assistance to cancer patients and their families in need.

Approximately 250 swimmers participate each year in the solo, two-person relay and team relay categories. In case of emergency, medical support personnel are provided on all solo swimmer boats, race official boats and as many team escort boats as possible.

SWIM Day begins at 5:30 a.m. at Captain’s Cove and ends at approximately 6:30 p.m. when the last swimmers arrive. EMTs join the swimmers on the ferry ride from Bridgeport Harbor, meeting their swimmer/boat at Dansford’s Marina in Port Jefferson, Long Island. A brief opening ceremony will take place at the Marina after everyone de-boards the ferry. Swimmers, EMTs, and boat captains will then proceed to their boats and prepare for departure. The first wave of boats will leave the Marina at approximately 8:00 a.m. The solo swimmers and two-person relays will be the first to depart at approximately 8:30 a.m. All swimmers will leave from West Beach.
